What You Need to Know

The Basics

There are only three people who can represent you in front of the IRS:

  • Tax attorney
  • Certified public accountant
  • Enrolled agent (EA)

An enrolled agent is the only one licensed at the Federal level, and can represent clients in every state. Only a small percentage of attorneys or accountants have any experience in dealing with the IRS.

Every tax case is unique, so you need a tax professional well versed in every option available to you.

A tax resolution specialist undergoes rigorous comprehensive training and participates in annual continuing education courses specifically dealing with IRS problems. They have access to up-to-date material on an ongoing basis.

IRS tax collectors are very powerful players in the federal government – people who you need to get off of your back NOW (remember, interest and penalties can continue to accrue).  If you do not pay your taxes, collectors can:

  • Garnish your wages
  • Levy your bank account
  • Close down your business
  • File a tax lien against you
  • Seize and sell your home
  • Assess you personally for corporate employment taxes

They can even contact business relationships, friends and neighbors about your tax liabilities, making your life miserable.

If you get behind in taxes, you are going to need a heavy hitter on your side.  If you get a notice from the IRS, follow these cardinal rules:

  • Don’t ignore the notification
  • Never meet with the IRS alone
  • Retain an experienced tax expert

How We Resolve Your IRS Tax Problems

It is important that we obtain a thorough understanding of your unique situation.  This personal interview will provide us with the background needed to develop the appropriate strategy for your IRS problem.

With the POA (which can only be used in a limited manner, expressly dealing with the IRS), we put the IRS on notice that we are representing you.  All future telephone calls or correspondence from the IRS should then come to us, not you.

We hope you will feel immediate relief, as we unburden you from stressful communications with the IRS.

By reviewing your IRS transcripts, we will be able to accurately determine what the IRS thinks it knows about your tax situation.

Each taxpayer’s situation is unique. With the information you have provided, we will develop a strategy. We do not believe in the cookie cutter approach … We do what is BEST for YOU.

Preparing complicated IRS forms is our business. You, however, will have to provide us the information needed to complete these IRS forms. We will make this process as easy as possible by sending you our easy-to-follow checklist.

We will prepare all forms required by the IRS.  All you have to do is review these forms and sign them.  We take care of the rest.

We will handle all negotiations with the IRS in order to get you the best deal possible.

We will explain all aspects of your settlement and will answer any and all questions that you may have.  We want to make sure you are completely informed and satisfied.

Frequently Asked Questions

Don’t all tax professionals have basically the same training?

No, they don’t. A Tax Resolution Specialist, for example, undergoes a rigorous comprehensive training and participates in annual continuing education courses specifically dealing with IRS problems.  They have access to up-to-date material on an ongoing basis.

Don’t all attorneys and accountants have experience with the IRS?

Only a small percentage of lawyers and accountants have any experience in dealing with the IRS.  Some attorneys simply prepare documents and many accountants deal only with accounting matters.

Do former IRS employees have special connections that give them an inside edge that other tax professionals do not have?

No. All IRS problems are resolved based on the facts of the case, the applicable law and the skill of the Tax Resolution Professional.  Personal connections simply do not come into play.

Don’t large national tax resolution firms that you see advertised on TV have an advantage over a local Tax Resolution Professional?

No. National firms have no advantage over local Tax Resolution Professionals and often are at a disadvantage.  Some firms that are advertised on TV are simply a brokerage house, which ‘subcontracts’ cases out to a local tax professional. A local Tax Resolution Professional is in a unique position of understanding not only the local economy but also any other issues that may affect taxpayers living in his/her area.

Are all tax professionals listed on Internet directories carefully screened for qualifications?

No. Most Internet directories are nothing more than another advertising media.  Sometimes, the only qualification required in order to be listed is the ability to pay big bucks for an “exclusive listing.”

Isn’t a tax professional who can guarantee results better than those who do not guarantee results?

No legitimate Tax Resolution Professional can guarantee results.  It is the IRS who ultimately decides the outcome of your case.  It is only by choosing a skilled and experienced Tax Resolution Professional that you can enhance your chances of a positive result.
